Early Insights
After our 8 User Interviews we found 28 Insights and realized our original Opportunity Statement needed a pivot. Users new to gaming weren't interested enough to learn about Esports even if it was accessible and available. For those interested in and knowledgable about Esports, there was a path that had become clear for each gamer in what we called the "Gamer Hole" or the User Journey.
User Journey
To get to the point of wanting to learn about esports, the user had to first have an interest in playing the game that they would eventually watch professionals play. From this realization, we knew we’d have to change our focus.
Persona
We gave our persona a gaming username as most users interviewed noted how important anonymity is throughout the gaming community.
Key Insights & Pivot
When we created our Opportunity Statement, we had game tutorials in mind where users could learn about each game and thus be able to get into esports easier. We knew that our persona learns by watching streamers of games he likes already on several different platforms. We also knew his focus was finding supportive online communities.
Each streamer has their own specific community, for the specific game(s) they play. Some are positive communities and some are not. Right now it's not easy to find who he wants to watch without a lot of random browsing. We kept in mind our Problem Statement:
How might we open SL1C(K)NIGHT up to new learning opportunities within the esports world?
Why don't we just make it easier and more personalized to find a streamer he likes and match him with them?
Next Steps
Your Community & Streamer Profile
Replace media links on homepage with icons to orient the user as to WHY those streamers were chosen for them
Discovery
Add ‘Discovery’ elements to its own separate page
Tournaments
Replace rules with an overview that explains the context of the match, with team rankings (when applicable), and team stats
